Still More Birds, April 2011

With the ice gone, a lot of the more interesting birds have left my usual spot by the river, but I went and paid the resident pair of coots a visit. Also took a lot of photos of what I thought was a white-fronted goose, but it turned out to be a domestic breed.

david albeck Found a coot (Fulica americana) in very shallow water.
david albeck The coot didn't seem to mind my presence.

david albeck People feed the geese, I don't know why.
david albeck I hadn't seen this species of goose before.
david albeck It looks just like a white-fronted goose...
david albeck Except its beak is the wrong color.
david albeck It's probably an escaped domestic goose.
david albeck In any case, it wasn't afraid of people.
