Local Flora, April 2012

Three visits to a field I know in eastern Mass, to watch the trout lilies bloom. The first visit was actually March 30th, during a heat wave.

Siberian Squill, Scilla siberica

One of two trout lilies (Erythronium americanum) blooming very early.

A Toadshade (Trillium sp.) in bud. I think this was planted here - the spot was once a garden.

A Horace's Duskywing, Erynnis horatius, during my second visit ten days later.

Toadshade in full bloom.
