Protected: Bangalore parks – family

Kokkarebellur

We drove south from Bangalore to see the Barachukki waterfalls on the Cauvery (Kaveri) river. The falls were nearly dry, but Smaranda, who always reads those “ten things to do around Bangalore” websites, noticed an item about a pelican preserve.

The pelican preserve was simply a village in whose trees lots of pelicans and storks like to roost. So we had to walk through people’s back yards to get good close-ups. But our timing was good — the light was perfect!

Fishing in Kochi

We watched the Chinese nets for a bit, then took a ferry north to climb a light-house and see a fish farm. Plus some photos of a drongo-cuckoo seen the next day at the naval museum.

A form of theater – the actors don’t speak, in fact they rarely even face each other, but they use a kind of sign language, and sometimes there’s narration from an onstage singer. The action was very, very slow; watching the make-up process was more interesting than the staged drama.
