Monadnock Hiking Trip - 5 april 2003

Hike up Monadnock in early spring of 2003. Or maybe I should say, late winter. Total whiteout conditions at the summit, so not much opportunity for photo-taking. Lots of opportunity to get lost, though :) Special bonus game: find the camera strap in one of the photos.

you should see an image here This is an example of retaliatory photo-taking. I was wedged into a somewhat tricky spot halfway up a boulder, and Michael made me wait while he dug his big honkin' camera out of his bag, attached the flash, ... I took this shot out of boredom, really.
you should see an image here At this point we weren't exactly sure where we were (somewhere on the south shoulder of the mountain) but at least we were on a trail.
you should see an image here Freezing rain plus diffuse light + reddish bits on the branches -> interesting translucent effects. Didn't quite capture it in the photo, though.
you should see an image here The fog got really thick at the summit (plus I was busy trying to find a. the summit b. a way up that didn't involve too much vertical climbing up icy rocks c. anything that might have been a trail), so I didn't take any photos there. This shot gives an idea what the conditions were like, though.
you should see an image here This was taken when the fog was actually lifting a bit, and we got a "view" ahead. By the way, this is also taken somewhere northwest of the summit (ie, opposite side from where we wanted to be) because we were so happy to reach the summit and find some footprints to follow, we forgot to check the compass as we went down.
you should see an image here The footsteps we had foolishly followed (plus our own). They're right there, see 'em?
