Still a little early for fall foliage, and lots of clouds and some rain, but a great hike nonetheless.
On the White Dot, there's no escape from the crowds on the trail. Luis and Michal have to wait for the rest of us to squeeze by.
Artemis and Jason on the lower slopes.
I missed it the last time, but the halfway sign on the White Dot trail is clearly still there. Nice contrast between the early fall foliage in the background here and the spring snow in this shot from a hike in May of 2002.
Some hints of fall color are visible on the lower slopes as we reach treeline.
But we're clearly in for limited visibility on the summit.
I was afraid this would be the last chance to take a photo before the fog.
But there were still some clear breaks to come, thanks to thirty-knot winds.
As the summit approaches, the mood improves.
An overlook just below the summit cone.
Climbing the summit cone as the clouds roll back in. Roughly the same spot as this photo from two weeks ago and this photo from May of 2002
The summit is just over that big rock in back.
Watch your step Michal!
Jason celebrates on the summit.
The happy summiteers. | |
It never fails: once we leave the summit, the sky clears (but only for a minute).
The red spot trail is pleasantly uncrowded, but it's a little chilly to stop for a real picnic.
Still hunting for that elusive foliage shot.
Tah-dah! (Then at this point my camera's battery died, so several nice photos on the aptly-named Cascade Link Trail weren't written to the card.) |
