After a flat stretch in the woods, the trail climbs up onto the ridge and you get some views. Here's a look back northward to Dublin Pond, where the trail begins.
Another view toward Dublin Pond. The trees don't really thin out much for most of the ridge, so you'll see some branches in the next few frames.
A bit higher up, a view back to both Dublin Pond and the woody point where the earlier photos were taken. Also, a trace of snow visible at lower right.
A tough shot into the sun - that's the summit ahead.
This ice looked like it was melting fast.
Close-up on the melting ice.
Last bump to climb before the summit.
Does this puddle look familiar?
Another shot from the same spot, showing the summit just ahead. Quite a difference in visibility from last year!
Final steps up to the summit. Those hikers are on the White Cross Trail.
More hikers approaching the summit from the East.
At least three more hikers are visible here climbing up from the West.
Most people faced south for their summit picnics, since the wind was from the North.
Typical crowd on the summit.
Same shot, panning farther left.
View south from the summit - Bald Rock in the middle distance.
I descended the White Dot trail a little ways to find "my tree" which I've been
photographing as part of my Monadnock time & weather series
Then it was back to the Pumpelly trail. I found a good viewpoint for surveying the route ahead.
Panning to the right - the exposed upper section of Pumpelly Ridge.
I told you this ice was melting fast!
Another close-up.
A typical view from the ridge.
A reprise: the last bump on the ridge, and Dublin Pond behind it.
A final view before passing back under the trees.
The fall foliage was a bit past its prime, but not entirely over.
Dublin Pond.
Another one of Dublin Pond.
