Still More Birds, April 2011

With the ice gone, a lot of the more interesting birds have left my usual spot by the river, but I went and paid the resident pair of coots a visit. Also took a lot of photos of what I thought was a white-fronted goose, but it turned out to be a domestic breed.

	Found a coot (Fulica americana) in very shallow water.
	The coot didn't seem to mind my presence.
	Grooming is a sign that a bird is starting to relax
	But the coot was still stopping once in a while to peer at me.
	Eventually it relaxed enough to turn its back

	A cardinal high in a tree.
	People feed the geese, I don't know why.
	I hadn't seen this species of goose before.
	It looks just like a white-fronted goose...
	Except its beak is the wrong color.
	It's probably an escaped domestic goose.
	In any case, it wasn't afraid of people.
