Fowl Weather, December 2006


It's been a very strange December, with weather more like September, so I wandered down to my local pond to see what I could see. Found the usual (well, not quite so usual in December) anseriformes and passeriformes, and a coraciiforme.

you should see an image here One of a few hooded mergansers that kept a bit more distance. There was also a pair of buffleheads that stayed completely out of range.
you should see an image here More ducks. I was shooting hand-held and couldn't keep them both in focus due to the need for high shutter speed and large aperture, but I liked the water rolling off the drake's head.
you should see an image here With the focus shifted to the foreground, the limited depth of focus is not as noticeable.

you should see an image here Canada geese are anything but shy. Snapped this one as it was strolling toward the water.

you should see an image here A white-throated sparrow. Not a great shot - small bird, too far away for my lens.
